All instruments have the potential to comfort us. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Picking up a musical instrument teaches patience, boosts creativity and so much more. As if that wasn’t enough, there are a plethora of different types of instruments.
For example, the trumpet belongs to the brass family, while the piano belongs to the percussion family. However, with so many different musical instruments to choose from can be frustrating. Instead, focus your search on instruments that produce soothing sounds: 1 2
Steel Tongue Drum
They call it the tongue drum because the slits look like “tongues”. They’re easy to use because they only have 9-13 notes and are portable. You can play the notes with your hands or by using a pair of mallets.

Kalimba
A tiny instrument, the kalimba features 17 notes that are played by plucking them. Despite their small size, the beautiful instrument still produces calming sounds. They usually come with a tuning hammer which is used to tune the instrument.
Native American Flute
The Native American flute isn’t your typical flute. It plays 5 beautiful notes and only has 5-6 holes. Aside from its elegant tunes and looks, it’s fun and satisfying to play.
While im sure that
“focus your search on instruments that produce soothing sounds” works for many, i feel i need something that can scream for me, electric guitar and the sax feels like they can produce the right feels in that regard but id love to find something easier to learn since my ADD makes me loose motivation to fast. (and i love music and instruments, im fascinated in learning how they work and how different designs and materials can change the sound)
Yeah, playing an electric guitar can definitely be therapeutic during such times. Music is an outlet for all emotions. In regards to finding something easy to learn, the ukulele is a good introduction to the guitar since it has fewer strings! It’s also important to remember you don’t have to be the best at an instrument for it to serve as a form of expression for you.
