You’ve heard it before, “You are your own worst enemy.” Talking to yourself can help, or hurt you, depending on perspective. Negative self-talk is an excellent way to degrade confidence and worsen anxiety. On the other hand, positive self-talk depletes anxiety and boosts confidence. Self-talk can be spoken internally (in your head) or externally (talking out loud). These are the benefits of talking externally to yourself (talking out loud).

Reflect

By speaking your emotions, you’ll be able to explore them. You’ll properly understand, manage, and identify emotions. 1

Release Thoughts

Just like writing, speaking can be just as effective. When something is bothering us, we want to speak to a friend or parent to get input. Instead of telling others, try talking your thoughts to yourself. Doing this, you’ll develop self-reliance.

Awareness Of Thoughts

Racing thoughts are random thoughts formed at a fast pace. This can be very stressful for some people. Talking helps you to properly challenge each thought.
