How To Accept Emotions
Everyone experiences uncomfortable feelings from time to time. The answer to handling these emotions isn’t to fight it though. That means not to hide anxiety when trying to sleep, for instance. In that scenario, your anxiety would only get worse. You can’t suddenly change the way you feel.
That’s like changing from embarrassment to excitement in a flash. Instead, you should try to find out what you’re feeling. This is usually all that’s needed to put your emotions at peace. With that out of the way, here’s how you do it.
Identify The Emotion
This is easier said than done. Sometimes, it might be obvious what you felt. On the other hand, emotions can be tricky to identify because they’re often mixed. For example, you might believe that you’re angry, but you could also feel betrayed as well. Be sure to write down your emotions and any sensations, like increased heart rate.
Explain The Emotion
You have to evaluate the event that caused your emotion. One good way to do this is to write down the scenario. Since all details will be noted, you can find triggers. This might also reveal other emotions you didn’t know you felt.
It’s Not Forever
You feel happy today, but does that mean you’ll always be happy, no matter what? Emotions constantly change and don’t last forever. So chances are, if you’re sad right now, you will feel different later on.
